Midway College Celebrates Title IX Anniversary
The Title IX decision was passed in 1972 to ban sex discrimination in schools, both in academics and athletics.
Midway College held a 40th anniversary celebration featuring 4 former athletes.
Myra Blackwelder, Kathleen DeBoer, Micki King, and Stacey Sheppard shared how the Title IX decision affected their athletic careers.
Micki King was an Olympic Gold Medalist in diving before Title IX.
She says people need to know the important of when Title IX wasn’t in action.
Former UK basketball star, Stacey Sheppard, became a successful athlete after Title IX.
She says she is thankful for all of the ladies who laid the groundwork before her.
