Color run for victims of Orlando nightclub massacre

LEXINGTON, Ky. (WTVQ)-Exercise like running, of course, helps to de-stress and help clear your head. The ladies of “Moms Run This Town” hope some of that positive energy that they grew together will find it’s way over in Orlando.

The running group meets every so often to cheer each other on for the next race.

Amber Barber who organized the Color Run says it’s, “…just a safe place for women to just be like hey I’m running anyone want to come join me. Just so we can have a group to be safe and just be a support and inspiration for women.”

But the women are not only running for each other, but for those in Orlando who need love the most right now.

Together they form a human rainbow, hoping to cast a glimmer of hope on a city still recovering from tragedy.

Runner Kristen Hughes says, “There’s going to be a long healing process.”

A supporter gives the ladies running high-fives. It’s a ray of encouragement they hope will let others in the Sunshine State know they’re not alone.

“We’re all a community and we all care about each other and we all love each other. We’re just here to support each other in a time of need whether it be now or down the road.”

Most say they never knew any of the victims in Orlando personally, but it’s an attack that hits home.

“Moms Run this Town” Lexington Chapter Leader Shari Rand says, “..just because it’s something that could happen anywhere and it has been happening anywhere. And I mean you just never know.”

Barber says, “It’s really scary and it’s really sad and I don’t know…we don’t know what to do, we just show our support.”

The group says this will not be there last Color Run. They’re hoping to do another bigger one in the near future. If you’d like to connect with them you can join their Facebook group for updates.
