Inmate escapes by impersonating another inmate

PAINTSVILLE, Ky. (WTVQ) – An inmate at Big Sandy Regional Detention Center is now on the loose, after impersonating another inmate who was set to be released on bond.

Officials at the detention center say it happened just before 9:30 a.m. on Tuesday when 46-year-old David Smallwood left the facility.

The detention center was placed on lockdown about 20 minutes after Smallwood left.

Smallwood was being held on domestic violence charges, among others.
