5-year-old killed in Owsley Co. fire identified
BOONEVILLE, Ky. (WTVQ) – The Owsley Co. Corner says that 5-year-old Jordyn Herald has died after a fire at a home on Old KY 11.
The coroner says fire crews were called out just before 2:00 a.m., about a fire and a young child who was unable to escape.
A mother and one of her daughters were able to get out of the home, according to the coroner, but a second child remained unaccounted for.
The coroner says he arrived around 3:20 a.m., but the fire was still ongoing, and entry to the home was impossible.
Hours later, once the fire had run its course, firefighters were able to enter the home and located a 5-year-old girl. She was pronounced dead at the scene by the coroner.
The coroner says that the home is a total loss.
Kentucky State Police say the cause of the fire is unknown.
