At least 30 to be laid off from UK’s College of Arts & Sciences
LEXINGTON, Ky. (WTVQ) – At least 30 staff members at the University of Kentucky’s College of Arts and Sciences will be laid off, according to a UK spokesperson.
The job cuts are expected to take place over the next few weeks. According to the UK, the cuts are not prompted by recent budget cuts by Governor Matt Bevin, but are the result of expiring contracts from several countries that were meant to pay to teach international students English as a second language.
The loss of those contracts translates to a $4 million dollar deficit for the university.
UK officials say the College of Arts and Sciences is the largest on the campus, employing about 200 people.
