Young father of three killed in Lexington trench collapse

LEXINGTON, Ky. (WTVQ)- Three young children will grow up without their father after he was killed Wednesday morning in a construction accident.

The coroner says 22-year-old Samuel Tyler Williams was working in a trench 16-feet deep along Todds Road when he was killed this morning. Crews say their rescue mission quickly turned into a recovery after a wall of dirt and gravel collapsed onto Williams.

The coroner says he died of asphyxiation.

“This is a misfortunate accident, ” says Fayette County Coroner Gary Ginn.

Loved ones started arriving to the scene shortly after learning of Williams’ death. The coroner says funeral arrangements are pending.

Wednesday afternoon, Ginn also said OSHA had been contacted and would be investigating the accident.
