Governor must decide if he’ll veto any parts of budget
FRANKFORT, Ky. (WTVQ/AP) – Republican Gov. Matt Bevin Friday night congratulated state lawmakers for passing what he said is a great budget.
The first term governor visited the House floor as the chamber was adjourned for the final time this year. Bevin shook hands with lawmakers of both parties. He made a similar trip to the state Senate last month.
Bevin now must decide which parts, if any, of the state’s two-year operating budget he will veto. Bevin told reporters it was a “great budget.” He said he reads every bill before deciding whether to sign it. He said the last thing he does is check to see who wrote the bill, adding that “may or may not color my thinking.”
The House and Senate adjourned for the final time just before midnight in accordance with state law. Since the legislative session officially ended, lawmakers can’t vote to override any gubernatorial vetoes.
