Monument for families dedicated at veterans cemetery

GRAYSON, Ky. (AP) – A monument that honors families of those who died while serving in the military is being dedicated at the Kentucky Veterans Cemetery Northeast.

The Independent reports the Gold Stars Family Monument will be dedicated Monday afternoon at the cemetery in Greenup County. Gold Star families, veterans and community members are invited to attend.

Speakers at the event will include Herschel “Woody” Williams, a Huntington, West Virginia, Medal of Honor recipient who founded the Gold Star Families Memorial Monuments.

The local Marine Corps League led fundraising for the $50,000 project, which honors the loved ones of service members who sacrificed their lives while defending the U.S.
