World Chicken Festival to celebrate Kentucky’s poultry heritage
LONDON, Ky. (WTVQ) – One of the state’s largest festivals returns from Sept. 23 through Sept. 26.
The World Chicken Festival honors the heritage of the region and its history with fried chicken.
Colonel Harland Sanders opened the first and original Kentucky Fried Chicken restaurant in southern Laurel County in the 1940’s. Lee Cummings, the co-founder of Lee’s Famous Recipe Chicken and Colonel Sanders’ nephew, also got his start in 1952 in Laurel County.
Below are the scheduled hours for the festival:
- Thursday, Sept. 23: 5 p.m. – 11 p.m.
- Friday, Sept. 24: 10 a.m. – 11 p.m.
- Saturday, Sept. 25: 10 a.m. – 11 p.m.
- Sunday, Sept. 26: 1 p.m. – 5 p.m.
