Concert benefits Oleika Shriners

LEXINGTON, Ky. (WTVQ) – Nix Mix Music threw a special community concert Saturday it hopes becomes a recurring event. Saturday’s concert benefitted the Oleika Shriner Temple, an organization supporting the Shriners Hospitals for Children.

The concert was named “Show Up for the Community” and organizer Nick Borkowski hopes to make this a concert series benefitting different local organizations.

“The ‘Show Up’ concert series is really a part of being with community, we want people to show up. This one was ‘Show Up for the Community’, we are all local businesses, local food, local musicians,” says Borkowski. “We want to be able to, any of our concerts we do, we want to be able to give back in some way.”

Borkowski says Show Up for the Community took about 4 months to plan. Since it fell on 9/11, a moment of silence was observed and Lexington firefighters were presented with a folded flag.
