Lexington Children’s Theatre celebrates long-time directors

LEXINGTON, Ky. (WTVQ) – The Lexington Children’s Theatre is celebrating the 41-year legacy of Larry and Vivian Snipes.

The Snipes, who recently retired, served as artistic director and producing director at the theatre. They were honored Friday evening and Saturday with the LCT Family Festival.

“They’ve really built this theatre from a small community theatre to a large professional organization,” said Managing Director Rachel Ray.

Last night, the theatre unveiled a new name for its main stage in honor of the Snipes’ legacy: the Larry and Vivian Snipes Main Stage.

“To be able to honor that work is really special. They have supported a lot of artists over the years–myself included–and it’s just a really great way to celebrate them,” said Producing Artistic Director Jeremy Kisling.

The festivities on Friday night included a ticketed cocktail party for people over 21. Saturday’s activities were for the entire family, including an exhibit with props and costumes used over the years, games, crafts, and a performance of an original production written by the Snipes entitled “Cows Don’t Fly And Other Known Facts.”
