Leslie County schools latest to close this week because of COVID surge

LESLIE COUNTY, Ky. (WTVQ) – The Leslie County School District is the latest in Eastern Kentucky to close schools this week because of a surge in COVID cases and related quarantines.
The district which has five schools and 1,600 students, is halting classes all this week with students scheduled to return to class Aug. 30, according to its Facebook page.
“Due to an increase in Covid cases in our schools and additional class quarantines, school will be cancelled through August 27, 2021. These will not be NTI days but will be made up later in the year,” the district said.
Magoffin County Schools also are closed this week.

SALYERSVILLE, Ky. (WTVQ) – Due to a rise in COVID-19 cases among students and staff, Magoffin County Schools will be closed the week of Aug. 23-27, according to the school district.
There will be no virtual instruction during the closure, according to the district.
Classes are scheduled to resume in-person and virtually on Monday, August 30, 2021.
The spreading coronavirus has already forced the cancellation of classes early this new school year in Lee County, Knott County and at Jenkins Independent.
