UPDATE: Second man charged in shooting over stolen car

LEXINGTON, Ky. (WTVQ) – A second man has been charged in connection with a late July shooting that stemmed from a confrontation over a stolen car.

According to Lexington Police, 20-year-old Kasin Hutchinson was charged Wednesday with first-degree assault, leaving the scene of an accident, possession of a handgun by a convicted felon, receiving stolen property over $10,000, first-degree robbery, evidence tampering, and first-degree wanton endangerment.

Police previously said that at about 1:35 a.m. Monday, July 26, 2021, officers responded to a collision with a victim shot in the Buckhorn Drive and Alumni Drive area. Upon arrival, officers were advised the 31-year-old shooting victim was transported in a passenger car to a local hospital. The injuries were reported as non-life threatening.

After further investigation, investigators determined the shooting victim located and followed his stolen vehicle and confronted the occupants, at least one of whom started shooting.

Police now have charged Hutchinson and Javon McMullen in that case.

LEXINGTON, Ky. (WTVQ) – The 19-year-old man who got into a 90-minute standoff with police Wednesday morning was wanted in connection with a shooting last month.

According to police, around 1:35 a.m. Monday, July 26, 2021, officers responded to a collision with a victim shot in the Buckhorn Drive and Alumni Drive area. Upon arrival, officers were advised the 31-year-old shooting victim was transported in a passenger car to a local hospital. The injuries were reported as non-life threatening.

After further investigation, investigators determined the the victim located and followed his stolen vehicle. The suspect, who police identified as Javon McMullen, began shooting when confronted.

The investigation led to the following charges against McMullen:

  • Assault 1st Degree
  • Wanton Endangerment 1st Degree
  • Leaving the Scene of an Accident
  • Theft by Unlawful Taking (Automobile)

McMullen has been lodged in the Fayette County Detention Center.

This investigation is ongoing.

LEXINGTON, Ky. (WTVQ) – a 19-year-old Lexington man created a stir in a neighborhood Wednesday morning when he got into a standoff with police who came to serve warrants for his arrest.

According to Fayette County Detention Center records, Javin Dmari McMullen is being held on $27,500 bond following his peaceful arrest at 1636 Claywood Court.

He is charged with first-degree assault, leaving the scene of an accident, auto theft between $10,000 and $1 million, and first-degree wanton endangerment.

LEXINGTON, Ky. (WTVQ) – One person has been taken into custody following a standoff

that lasted about 90 minutes in a Lexington neighborhood.

Lexington Police confirmed the standoff, which was centered at 1636 Claywood Court, ended at about 10:50 a.m. with one person taken into custody by officers. The incident began just before 9:20 a.m.

According to Lt. Chris Van Brackel, detectives had an arrest warrant for a person at the home but when they went to the residence to serve it, the man refused to come out. About 90 minutes later, officers convinced him to come out with his hands up and he did without incident.

Other people in the house also were escorted out safely, the lieutenant said.

No other details about the person or the warrant have been released. He was transported to the Fayette County Detention Center.

Police blocked off part of the area around the house. No injuries were reported.
