Midway University named Five-Star Champions of Character for 12th straight year
MIDWAY, Ky. (WTVQ/Midway Public Affairs) – The National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) has once again recognized Midway University as a Champions of Character Five-Star Award recipient.
This marks the 12th straight year of receiving this honor, and 5th consecutive year earning the highest honor of Gold Level Distinction.
“We couldn’t be happier to receive this honor from the NAIA,” said Rusty Kennedy, Vice President of Admissions and Athletics. “Despite the challenges of the COVID-19 pandemic, our student-athletes, coaches, and staff worked extremely hard to represent the values of the NAIA to the highest level in the classroom, community and on the playing fields and this recognition is a direct reflection of those efforts.”
Annually, each NAIA institution and conference must demonstrate their progress in pursuing character-driven athletics.
The Champions of Character Scorecard measures a commitment to character training, academic focus, character promotion, conduct in competition, and character recognition on a scale of 0-100 points.
There are three different levels that an NAIA institution can earn to be recognized as a Champions of Character Five-Star Institution.
The gold level is the highest honor which requires 90-100 points, the silver level requires 75-89 points, and the bronze level requires 60-74 points.
Of the 157 institutions that received the distinction, there were 58 gold winners, 60 silver winners and 39 bronze winners.
The River States Conference, of which Midway University is a member, was also recognized as a Champions of Character Five-Star Conference. In total, eight RSC institutions were named Five-Star institutions, while three of those were named to the gold level.
