Students head back to school in Fayette County, districts across the state

FAYETTE COUTNY, Ky. (WTVQ) – More than a dozen districts across Kentucky head back to school on Wednesday, August 11 including Fayette County and everyone will have to wear a mask indoors.

The return comes after Governor Andy Beshear issued a mask mandate for schools and child care centers across the state.

According to the governor, the mandate includes all teachers, staff, visitors, and students K-12 as well as pre-kindergarten programs like head start. In addition, all staff, visitors and children ages two and older at child care centers will also have to wear a face covering indoors.

Tuesday, the district announced nearly 300 students were in quarantine due to COVID-19.

It may look like a different scene inside schools on Wednesday but many students say they’re still excited to return to in-person learning.

ABC 36’s Danielle Saitta will have more on the return to school for one family in Fayette County, tonight at five.
