US 460 in Morgan County to be closed for bridge repairs beginning Aug. 16

MORGAN COUNTY, Ky. (WTVQ) – Drivers who use US 460 in southeastern Morgan County near the Magoffin County line will have to find an alternate route beginning Monday, Aug. 16.

The bridge crossing Big Spring Branch at milepoint 27.48 will be closed for two weeks for repairs. This will impact travel between West Liberty and Salyersville.

The project is part of the Bridging Kentucky program.

A signed detour for passenger vehicles involving KY 1081 will be posted. Message boards announcing the bridge’s closure will be displayed starting next week.

A separate signed truck detour involving the Mountain Parkway, KY 134, and KY 191 via Exit 60 will also be posted.

Trucks and other through traffic between West Liberty and Salyersville may prefer to use an unmarked detour via the Mountain Parkway and KY 205, as this route is more suitable for larger vehicles.

The bridge is expected to reopen by Aug. 30.

The existing bridge was built in 1930, has a sufficiency rating of 46.3, and is classified as structurally deficient. It has a weight limit of between 20 and 40 tons, depending on the type of vehicle. Approximately 1,100 vehicles use the bridge each day.
