Business launches ‘Clean the Creek’ effort to save former ‘party place’

RICHMOND, Ky. (WTVQ) – A small business is trying to make a difference by cleaning up a nearby creek.

Ashlie Hatton, the owner of Newby Country Store, bought her business last April.
It was built in 1891.

One of the perks of buying it was the creek down the road, but over the years it hasn’t been kept very clean.

So with the help of volunteers, sponsors and vendors, Hatton created the ‘Clean the Creek’ campaign.

“It used to be a big party place for college kids and I think now it is becoming more family oriented and community oriented that it’s on the radar more to keep it cleaned up and nice for everybody to go down,” said Hatton.

During Saturday’s clean up, volunteers bagged 260 pounds of trash and recyclables.
