Two wanted in University Ave. murder apprehended

LEXINGTON, Ky. (WTVQ) – Two men charged in connection with the January 9 murder of Caleb Hallett have been arrested, according to Lexington police.

Officers say on Tuesday, March 8, investigators found and arrested 19-year-old Marquess L. Smith, along with another man who was a juvenile at the time of the incident.  They have both been charged with murder, assault, and robbery.

The search for the two suspects started on January 12, after arrest warrants were issued.

On January 9, 2016, just after 3:00 a.m., officers say they were called to the 200 block of University Avenue in response to shots being fired in the area with possible victims. Upon arrival, officers found two victims suffering from gunshot wounds inside a vehicle. Both victims were taken to University of Kentucky Hospital where Caleb Hallett later died.

Two other juveniles connected with the case are also in custody. A fifth suspect, Kenyon Hipps, suffered a self-inflicted gunshot wound on January 19 in Dayton, Ohio.
