Assault in Olive Hill under investigation by KSP

OLIVE HILL, Ky. (WTVQ) – A 26-year-old Carter County man is charged with first-degree assault and parole violation while another man fights for his life at UK Medical Center following an assault Tuesday.

According to Kentucky State Police, Robert Plummer was arrested Tuesday afternoon in connection with an assault on Richard Dunaway.

Troopers said Dunaway was found lying in the roadway on Democrat Hill in Olive Hill in Carter County. He was taken to Saint Clair Medical Center, and then transferred to UK Hospital.

Witnesses told Olive Hill Police and troopers Plumber and Dunaway got into an altercation at a residence at 135 Democrat Hill. Evidence at the scene and statements from those involved reveal Plummer hit Dunaway with a metal rod, causing lacerations to his head, a compound fracture to his left leg, and possible brain injuries, according to the KSP.

The last update revealed Dunaway was in critical but stable condition.

This incident remains under investigation by KSP Detective David Boarman.
