Family celebrates 100 years of life and love

FRANKFORT, Ky. (WTVQ) – Maud Foster was born when the nation was celebrating it’s 145th birthday. After living through wars, depressions and now COVID-19, Foster celebrated her 100th birthday today. She is the last living sibling out of her 13 brothers and sisters.

While being separated due to the pandemic, Foster’s family wondered if they’d be able to celebrate another birthday with her and today that wish came true.

The party today was a surprise to Foster with many of her nieces and nephews attending. They say they were excited to come together and celebrate in person after so long apart.

“It’s just nice to see her and be able to be with her,” says Clifton Shoultz, one of Foster’s nephews.

Described as a modest woman, staff at the facility where Foster lives say she was reluctant to have a big birthday celebration.

“This is a milestone and I wanted it to be something she can remember as well as her could remember just for her,” says Arlene Herring, Clinical Nurse Liason at Frankfort Care and Rehabilitation.

Foster says she doesn’t know the secret to living 100 years and chalks it up to just growing up.

“Well I never thought I would,” says Foster. “But I did.”
