Boy dreams of a birthday in Disney World
One young boy in Lexington is spending his summer vacation learning the meaning of “hard work pays off”. Lemonade stands are a staple in the summer for kids to earn spending money, but Alex Manna, 7, has a bigger goal.
Alex turns eight this December and his birthday wish is to go to Disney World.
“I think Disney is a really cool place and I just love going,” says Alex.
When Alex told his mom of his birthday wish, he made one important clarification. He wanted to raise the money to pay for the trip himself.
Alex’s mom, Erin Manna, says he told her he didn’t want her to get “bank robbed” so he suggested doing a lemonade stand to help pay for the trip.
“As a mom it’s awesome to watch him get to talk to people and figure out budgeting and money and be comfortable talking to strangers about different things,” says Manna. “But the best part has been watching people talk to Alex and how they’ve interacted with him.”
Alex’s lemonade stand has been going strong since June 16th. He needs to make $2400 to pay for he and his mom to have a Disney birthday getaway. In the last few weeks he’s been in business, Alex has earned enough to pay for 25% of the trip.
He says he’ll be selling lemonade at the corner of Saron Drive and Clearwater Way in Lexington until the end of the summer.
