Long-time Lexington councilman dies at 83

LEXINGTON, Ky. (WTVQ)- Long-time Lexington councilman, Roy Durbin passed away Wednesday. Here’s the obituary from Kerr Brothers Funeral Home:

DURBIN, Roy, 83, husband of Agnes Dickerson Durbin, sadly passed away Wed. Feb. 24, 2016 at Mayfair Manor Nursing Home. Born Dec. 11, 1932 in Lee County, KY, he was the son of the late Hade and Elizabeth Crouch Durbin. He served in the U.S. Navy during the Korean War, and was a barber for over 50 years, owning Suburban Barbershop and Clays Mill Barbershop. Mr. Durbin served as the 9th District Councilman for 13 years and was baseball coach and president of Clays Mill Baseball League for many years. In addition to his wife, he is survived by two sons, David Durbin and John Scott Durbin; two granddaughters, Avery Durbin and Elliott Durbin, all of Lexington, KY; five siblings, Betty Lunsford, Hade Durbin, Robert Durbin, Leslie Durbin, and Mary Singleton; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by a brother, Hubert Durbin. Daddy, Razor Roy, Coach/Councilman Durbin and Grandy, as he was known by, will be missed by all. Funeral services will be held 11 am Mon. at Kerr Brothers Funeral Home, Harrodsburg Rd. Burial will follow in Camp Nelson National Cemetery. Visitation will be held 4-8 pm Sun. at the funeral home. Memorial contributions are suggested to Southern Heights Baptist Church, 3408 Clays Mill Rd., Lexington, KY 40503 or the UK Markey Cancer Center, 800 Rose Street, Lexington, KY 40536.
