Officers receive award after saving colleague from choking

GEORGETOWN, Ky. (WTVQ) – Officers in Georgetown know that being prepared at all times is a necessity on the job, and even a simple roll call is no reason to lapse on alertness.

On Monday morning, at about 7:45 a.m., police in the patrol area were conducting their morning roll call, when Officer Mike Scott began choking.  According to a police release, Scott motioned to surrounding police that he needed help as he struggled to breathe, and even began turning blue. Master Senior Officer Teresa Hollon and Sergeant Kevin Wallace moved into action, grabbing Officer Scott from behind and administering the Heimlich maneuver. After several compressions, Officer Scott began breathing again, and thankfully has recovered completely.

Master Senior Officer Hollon and Sergeant Wallace have been recognized with a lifesaving commendation for assisting Officer Scott, with police joking that he has been asked to chew his food at least 100 times before swallowing.
