Hundreds ‘Walk for Warmth’ in Downtown Lexington

LEXINGTON, Ky. (WTVQ)- Hundreds of walkers took advantage of a mild morning in Downtown Lexington while walking to prevent homelessness in the city.

It was fittingly called, ‘Walk for Warmth’. Organizers say it spans two miles and its purpose is to raise support for local homelessness prevention efforts.

The event, in its ninth year benefits the Lexington Rescue Mission’s Homeless Prevention Program, which helps families in crisis by providing emergency financial assistance for rent and utility bills as well as budget counseling, resource referral and case management.

“We’re seeing more and more people come through our doors needing help, ” says Jim Connell, Executive Director. “We’re hoping this event will help us meet that increased need and will help people stay in their homes and keep their heat, lights and water on.”

The walk started at Phoenix Park.
