Henry Clay Center for Statesmanship announces expanded program

LEXINGTON, Ky. (WTVQ) — For the first time, the Henry Clay Center for Statesmanship announced they will conduct programs for both high school and college level students.

According to the Center’s mission statement, their goal is to educate a new generation of leaders in the principles and practices of  statesmanship as exemplified by the great statesman Henry Clay. The mission statement also mentioned that Abraham Lincoln regarded Henry Clay as the greatest statesman the nation had ever produced, calling him “my beau ideal of a statesman.”

According to the center, it has held a summer Student Congress for the past decade. The congress a week-long program with the opportunity to meet with lawmakers, academics, and civic leaders to discuss various topics regarding the practical application of democracy.

The Student Congress programs are completely free of cost (travel and lodging included) to those who are selected through their competitive application process. High school and college juniors with exemplary records of academic and extracurricular achievement are invited to apply.
