Snow collapses marina roofs, sinks boats along Lake Cumberland

Jamestown, Ky. (WTVQ/WHAS) – While the snow around central Kentucky is largely melting off, people in Southern Kentucky are still wrestling with the mess.

There is extensive property damage around Lake Cumberland. ABC 36 was told that five of Lake Cumberland’s seven marinas have suffered damage after Friday’s snowstorm , including those along the Green River and Dale Hollow Lake.

Recovery efforts are just beginning after the roof collapsed under the weight of several inches of snow. Owners say they’re still counting the slips and boats affected.

Marina officials say the roofs were built 20-25 years ago and were up to code.

The Kentucky National Guard and a drone company from Lexington are on the grounds and helping to survey the damage.
