LPD: Vending machine ties man to theft
LEXINGTON, Ky. (WTVQ) – Police say a suspected thief was done in by a vending machine.
Court documents say 30-year-old Michael Caudill went into the Mini Mart Shell on Iron Works Pike last month and stole a television.
They say another man with Caudill distracted the clerk by asking her for an item from the back of the store.
After getting it, she saw Caudill placing a television in the car.
She got the license plate and told police another clerk mentioned two men matching the same description had come in before, and it appeared they moved the television closer to the door.
One said he lost $5 in the vending machine and left his name.
Police used that to track down that man, who told them about Caudill, according to court documents.
Caudill was arrested Sunday morning on Versailles Road, following a burglary at the Exxon station.
Documents say Caudill acted as a lookout while Christopher Giles shattered the window of the store and took money and other items.
He was also arrested at the scene.
