Two seriously injured when tri-cycle crosses median, hits trailer
WOODFORD COUNTY, Ky. (WTVQ) – Two people were seriously injured and one was airlifted from the scene during a tri-cycle crash Saturday morning.
The accident happened at about 10:15 a.m. on the Bluegrass Parkway just west of the Highway 60 on-ramp.
Witnesses said the tri-cycle was eastbound on the Parkway when for some reason, it crossed the median and was struck by a westbound pickup truck pulling a camper.
The witnesses said it looked like the tri-cycle had some kind of mechanical problem that may have contributed to it crossing the median.
The pickup tried to avoid the collision and ended up on a guard rail.
The driver of the tri-cycle was thrown over a guardrail and was airlifted from the scene to UK Medical Center.
The woman passenger ended up in the middle of the road. She suffered a broken arm and serious road burns.
Both were wearing helmets, but the helmets came off during the crash.
Emergency crews from Woodford and Anderson County responded to the scene, which backed traffic up in both directions as the road was shut down.
