Salvation Army Church in Frankfort ransacked, cash stolen
FRANKFORT, Ky. (WTVQ) – Frankfort police are looking for whoever broke into the Salvation Army Church on Greenup Avenue.
Officers say they responded to a triggered alarm at the church just around midnight Tuesday morning.
When they got there, police say they found that someone had smashed the glass on a side door of the building to get in. Further investigation revealed that locked doors inside the building had been forced open and that offices had been ransacked.
A member of the Salvation Army staff says $300 petty cash was stolen along with some gift cards. He believes whoever broke in was trying to take the Red Kettle Campaign money but that was in a locked safe.
“They were not able to get through that, we thank God for that but other than that it’s just the damage,” said Lt. Harold Gitua with the Salvation Army.
He says the damage is an unexpected expense for the Salvation Army. He hopes the community will help cover the cost and donate during the remaining days of the Red Kettle Campaign.
