LEXINGTON, Ky. (WTVQ) –The Fayette Co. Coroner has identified a man found dead in a car on Kent Drive on Sunday.

The coroner says 18-year-old Jamaal Tre Gossett died of a gunshot wound.

Officials say he was found around 8:30 p.m. in the driver’s seat of an SUV with a head injury.

A neighbor told ABC 36 that while at home with his family they heard what sounded like firecrackers. They later learned that it was something more serious as police taped off the area near their home.

Police say this is being investigated as a homicide. The mobile crime lab unit was at the scene for several hours gathering evidence and searching for clues into what led to the man’s death.
