Some EKU classes canceled next week

RICHMOND, Ky. (WTVQ) – Some classes at Eastern Kentucky University are canceled next Tuesday and Wednesday (Nov. 10-11) to accommodate the visitation and funeral being held at the school’s Alumni Coliseum for slain Richmond Police Officer Daniel Ellis.

Because large numbers of people are expected to attend the visitation and funeral on campus, all EKU classes at all campuses will be canceled beginning at 4:45 p.m. on Tuesday and will resume at 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday. In addition, Model Laboratory School will close at 12:30 p.m. on Tuesday and remain closed on Wednesday. The University will remain open normal hours Tuesday and Wednesday, and staff are to report as normal, according to an email that was sent out Friday from school President Michael Benson.

Officer Ellis earned a bachelor’s degree in criminal justice at EKU in 2005. Officer Ellis’ wife, Katie Elizabeth Gruenwald Ellis, earned degrees from the EKU College of Education and is currently an assistant principal at Madison Central High School in Richmond.

The family has requested donations to:
