Tepin took the lead at the three-quarters pole from pacesetter Obviously and drew off to the win the $2 million Mile, finishing 2 1/4 lengths ahead of Mondialiste. The Woodbine Mile winner put in a late run, going from eighth to second in the stretch. The final time for the Mile was 1:36.69 on a good turf course. Grand Arch finished third.

It was an emotional scene in the winner’s circle when 32-year-old trainer Maria Borell won her first-ever Breeders’ Cup race with Runhappy in the TwinSpires Sprint. The 3-year-old Super Saver colt came from off the pace to win the $1.5 million Sprint in a final time of 1:08.58 as the post-time favorite. Private Zone, the pacesetter, finished second.

Songbird broke sharply from the gate and led every step of the $2 million 14 Hands Winery Juvenile Fillies. Runner-up Rachel’s Valentina gave chase through a half in :47.15 and six furlongs in 1:11.42, finishing 5 3/4 lengths lengths behind the winner. Dothraki Queen was third. The final time for the 1 1/16 mile race was 1:42.73 on a fast track.

2015 JUVENILE TURF
RECAP
Last at the half, and still seventh in the 14-horse field at the stretch, Hit It a Bomb found room to run and exploded late to win the $1 million Juvenile Turf by a neck over favored Airoforce. In a tight finish, Birchwood (IRE) ran third, a neck behind the runner-up.
Owned by Evelyn Stockwell, the War Front colt covered the one mile in 1:38.86, paying $16.40 to win.
Trainer Aidan O’Brien praised jockey Ryan Moore for Hit It a Bomb’s trip. “Ryan gave him a marvelous ride,” said O’Brien. “He said he was going to leave him relaxed the first part of the race and work it out from there.”
