Town Branch Water Walk follows path for proposed downtown park system
LEXINGTON, Ky. (WTVQ)- Walkers, runners and bicyclists took to downtown Lexington this weekend for the Town Branch Water Walk.
The event is a tour of the historic creek which shaped Lexington’s development, according to organizers. Guests got the opportunity to learn about the hidden waterway flowing beneath downtown Lexington. The event was free to everyone and encompassed a 1.75 mile loop which ended at Charles Young Park on Midland Avenue.
Organizers say the event is a way to get Lexington residents out and active. Kentucky ranks 6th in the nation for its obesity rate and only 12 percent of Kentucky adults exercise for 30 minutes, five times a week.
The Town Branch Water Walk was created by SCAPE Landscape Architecture and other Lexington-area organizations.
