Fingerprint leads to suspect in shooting & burglary

LEXINGTON, Ky. (WTVQ) – Police say a fingerprint led them to one of the suspects in a burglary and shooting at a Lexington home last week.

25-year-old Michael Walls was taken into custody Tuesday.

Court documents say Walls, along with another man, broke into a home on Foraker Drive last Thursday.

Documents say the suspects broke out glass on the kitchen door to get in.

Police say, while Walls and the other suspect were burglarizing the home, the homeowner woke up.

He was shot by one of the burglars before they ran off. The victim was able to call 911 and he was rushed to the hospital for surgery.

Court documents say during their investigation, police found a partial fingerprint on a window where they believe the suspects tried to first get in. They were able to lift the fingerprint from the window and run it through the system. Police say it matched that of Michael Walls.

Court documents say Walls confessed to the burglary.

Police say several items were stolen from the home.

The other suspect in the case has not been arrested.
