9-year remembrance of Flight 5191

LEXINGTON, Ky. (WTVQ) – A somber anniversary in Lexington on Thursday.  Nine years ago, Comair flight 5191 crashed at Blue Grass airport…killing 49 of the 50 people onboard.

The Atlanta-bound plane took off from the wrong runway, one that wasn’t long enough for the plane to clear a tree line.
The co-pilot was the only survivor.  Many of the victims were from central Kentucky.

To honor them, there’s a permanent memorial at the arboretum on the UK campus.
