UPDATE: Additional details on camper found alive

WOLFE CO., Ky. (WTVQ) – Wolfe Co. Search & Rescue is releasing more details about the lost camper, Josh Adkins, who was located today.

According to officials with the team, someone driving westbound on the Mountain Parkway say a man walking along the road at around 8:00 a.m. Wednesday morning, that matched Adkins’ description.  Powell Co. Emergency Management sent search crews and family out to the area, but weren’t able to locate Adkins.

Then, around 11:30 a.m., a local business owner was traveling on Old Hwy 15 when he also saw a man matching Adkins’ description. He went to his business to check the flyer that the rescue teams had passed out and drove back to the location where he again saw the man.  That’s when he says he asked the man if he was lost, and the man said yes.

Wolfe Co. Search and Rescue Team says Adkins told them he has been hiking around Red River Gorge trying to find his way out since Saturday evening, August 1.  Adkins told rescuers he has been eating corn, apples and drinking water out of a creek.

He has been reunited with family and friends, and was checked by a doctor.  Wolfe Co. Search & Rescue Team says Adkins looks well, in light of the spare conditions he has been living under.

During the search for Adkins, 8 searchers were injured. 7 went to the emergency room for injuries sustained while looking for him.
