Sheriff: Mother left children alone in ‘extremely deplorable’ living conditions

LAUREL COUNTY, Ky. (WTVQ) – A mother is behind bars after police say she left her five small children alone in a filthy home in Laurel County.

The Laurel County Sheriff’s Office says Christina Conley, 30, was arrested Friday after a traffic stop in London. They pulled her over while deputies were investigating a theft.

Deputies say they were originally taking a report of a theft along Topton Road when the suspect’s vehicle drove by the scene.

When police pulled Conley over, the traffic stop happened in front of her home, they say. During the investigation, deputies say they found out that Conley had left five small children alone at home and in “extremely deplorable” conditions.

Deputies say they located the reported stolen battery tray inside Conley’s SUV. She is charged with wanton endangerment, receiving stolen property, possession of burglary tools, operating a motor vehicle under the influence, failure to wear seatbelts, booster seat violations, failure of owner to maintain required insurance and other traffic violation.

The children were taken were placed with other family members by social services, the sheriff’s office says.
