KSP: Harlan County man killed in violent collision

CAWOOD, Ky. (WTVQ) – State Police say a Harlan County man was killed in a violent collision in the Cawood community on Monday afternoon.

State Police say according to a preliminary investigation, 30-year old Shawn K. Smith of Cawood was driving west on Nola Street shortly after 4:00 p.m., when the 1997 Ford Thunderbird he was operating left the road, spun across the road, hit a tree and overturned, coming to rest on its top.

State Police say Smith was pronounced dead at a nearby hospital.  The accident is still under investigation.
