Somerset Police: 2 arrested after theft, escape

SOMERSET, Ky. (WTVQ) – Somerset police say two women were arrested for reportedly stealing a laptop, and then one of the women attempted to escape from jail.

Officers say they received a call around 12:15 p.m. on Sunday, July 12 from someone who said their laptop had been taken from their room at the Super 8 Motel.  The victim reportedly told investigators that 36-year-old Wendi Dillman, also staying at the Super 8, had taken the laptop.  Officers say when they went to Dillman’s room a witness saw Dillman and another woman, 36-year-old Cassie Leach climbing out of their motel room window.  Officers say they recovered the laptop in the room, along with methamphetamine, Xanax, and syringes.  Officers found Leach and Dillman at a Snappy Tomato Pizza shortly thereafter.  The two were arrested on multiple charges including theft, and taken to Pulaski Co. Detention Center.

Then, at around 6:30 p.m. that same day, officers received a report that Dillman had escaped the detention center.  Officers say they arrived in less than three minutes of the call, and found Dillman hiding under a bush near Somerhill Court.  Dillman was taken into custody and charged with escape.
