Grimes: “We should not represent ourselves with symbols of division.”

FRANKFORT, Ky. (WTVQ) – Secretary of State Alison Grimes issued on July 10, her statement about South Carolina capitol’s Confederate flag being taken down that morning.
She commended South Carolina’s leaders for removing it from the statehouse grounds, saying that it is undoubtedly an important piece of history. However, she added, the flag does not belong on public grounds, flying over government buildings.

”We should not represent ourselves with symbols of division. As the flag comes down today, let us pray for the victims of the tragedy in Charleston and for continued healing of painful divides in our country.” she said.
