Police: Motorcyclist killed in early morning crash
Police say their Crash Unit was at the scene throughout Monday morning trying to determine the cause of the fatal accident that happened around midnight. Authorities told ABC 36 an SUV was heading outbound on Nicholasville Road and attempted to make a left turn onto Southpoint Drive. Investigators say the SUV turned in front of a motorcycle that was coming inbound at a high rate of speed.
Police say the motorcyclist was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver of the SUV was not hurt and no other injuries were reported, according to authorities.
Investigators say it is too early to say how fast the SUV driver and motorcyclist were going at the moment of impact.
"This is a major road, so we have a lot of traffic coming through here," said Lieutenant Hunter Faulconer. "We’re trying to step up our enforcement and slow people down out here."
