American Queen changes course, will make stop in Paducah

PADUCAH, Ky. (AP) — The American Queen will be making a stop in Paducah, marking the start of riverboat season.

The Paducah Sun reports (http://bit.ly/1UbT4vC ) the boat was previously planned to be in St. Louis, but due to high river levels on the Mississippi, it will arrive at the Paducah riverfront Saturday.

Fowler Black, sales director at the Paducah Convention and Visitors Bureau, says the American Queen will be arriving just in time for Fourth of July activities. It is expected to bring more than 300 passengers.

Black says the bureau and the Paducah Parks Services Department were concerned the water would also be too high at Paducah for the American Queen to come through. However, Black says they have found a place at the river port for the boat to anchor.
