Food Pantries need milk
LEXINGTON, Ky. (WTVQ) — Prairie Farms said they kicked off “Dairy month” June by donating more than 11,000 gallons of milk to food banks across the Midwest. They say they will stop by God’s Pantry Food Bank in Lexington on Tuesday, to make a 500 gallon donation.
Prarie Farms say they are participating in the Great American Milk Drive, to supply local food pantries with much-needed milk.
Hunger impacts 1 in 6 Americans, says Prairie Farms, including 16 million children who lack access to food rich in important vitamins and minerals. Especially during the summer, officials say, when children are no longer provided a healthy lunch at school. Milk especially, authorities added, is nutrition-rich and is always needed at food banks.
For anyone interested in joining the Great American Milk Drive, you can text “Milk” to 27722 and $5 will go to a family who does not have access to it. Likewise, you can go to www.milklife.com/give, entering your zip code, and ensure that the milk is delivered to a local Feeding America food bank in Lexington.
