Lexington police cat named “Cat of the Year”
LEXINGTON, Ky. (WTVQ) — The Lexington Police Department announced today that its feline guardian of the barn “Hobbes” has been chosen as the “Cat of the Year”.
Hobbes is a 14-year-old, non-sworn veteran of the department. Her duties reportedly include greeting visitors, and keeping the Mounted Police Barn free of pests, such as mice and snakes. The Catapalooza award committee chose Hobbes, saying “Hobbes is an important cat within our community and performs a service. She is a great candidate for this prestigious award”.
The department says Hobbes will receive the award at the Lexingtn Humane Society on June 20 at 2:30 p.m, during Catapalooza. The event, which supports the humane society, is sponsored by the Lexington Hospital for Cats.
The public is invited to attend Hobbe’s award ceremony, officials say, as well as attend the rest of Catapalooza. Organizers say a live band is scheduled to play, and there will be free food, giveaways, carnival games and more.
