Lexington businesses raided, organized crime arrests made

LEXINGTON, Ky. (WTVQ)- Arrests related to organized crime have been made after a pair of Lexington businesses were raided by state and federal agencies.

Troopers, along with Kroger loss prevention Organized Crime Division have been working undercover in the Lexington area for a month now. Troopers say they were also assisted by canine units, Alcohol Beverage Control, Kentucky Department of Revenue, and Lexington Police.

Troopers say warrants were served at two Lexington businesses after investigations showed they were selling items stolen from Kroger stores throughout the Lexington area. The first happened before noon at Progress Mini Market on South Limestone. 30-year-old Ahmed Said Ismail of Lexington was arrested and charged with four counts of engaging in organized crime.

Shortly after, troopers, along with other agencies made their way to Eastland Food Mart on Eastland Parkway in Lexington. Similar to Progress Mini Market, Eastland Food Mart was selling items stolen from Kroger, according to troopers.

After the raid, 40-year-old Deepamkumas Patel, of Decatur, Georgia and 41-year-old Jagrutibahen Patel, of Lexington were arrested and charged with engaging in organized crime.

The investigation is ongoing and troopers expect more charges to be filed.
