Keeneland releases new standards
LEXINGTON, Ky. (WTVQ) — New guidelines and standards have been agreed upon, says Keeneland, after discussions with the Coalition for Horse Racing Integrity.
Keeneland announced on Friday that they must pledge to provide for the health and welfare of their athletes, and assure everyone that “Every facet of our sport is conducted with the highest level of integrity and is subject to a heightened level of scrutiny.”
While not currently a member of the Coalition, Keeneland urged other race tracks and horsemen to constructively work alongside the Coalition and other industry leaders.
Among the list of guidelines released, Keeneland has decided on unifying various procedures and protocols, including testing, investigation, and accreditation.
From the official announcement, “All of these must be performed with appropriate rigor to achieve the goal of a level playing field for all participants and the elimination of performance-enhancing drugs in Thoroughbred racing.”
