Officials hope for higher turnout than original projection

FRANKFORT, Ky. (AP) — An official with the Kentucky secretary of state’s office says turnout might be higher than originally projected as voters head to the polls to cast ballots for races including governor.

Spokeswoman Lynn Zellen said an increase in absentee voting over the last several days has led officials to hope that more than 10 percent of voters will head to the polls.

Zellen said things were quiet Tuesday morning with no significant problems reported.

Voters will decide who to nominate for governor following months of contentious campaigning on the Republican side. Other races on the ballot include attorney general, agriculture commissioner, secretary of state and state treasurer.

Anyone who sees suspicious activity at polling places is encouraged to report it by calling 800-328-VOTE.
