Soldiers, vets meeting at post for ‘Hamburger Hill’ reunion

FORT CAMPBELL, Ky. (AP) — A 101st Airborne Division unit and veterans will gather at Fort Campbell this week to commemorate the 46th anniversary of the Battle of Hamburger Hill during the Vietnam War.

The battle in 1969 involved the 3rd Brigade and was one of the bloodiest of the war. Afterward, U.S. and South Vietnamese forces captured the mountain the Americans referred to as "Hamburger Hill."

Soldiers from the 3rd Brigade Combat Team known as "Rakkasans" and veterans of the Battle of Hamburger Hill are meeting Tuesday through Thursday at the post on the Kentucky-Tennessee state line. Events include a tour of the post, telling of war stories and a wreath laying.
