Police investigate break-in and shooting on Winburn Drive

LEXINGTON, Ky. (WTVQ) – Police say a break-in led to a shooting at a Lexington apartment Wednesday morning. Police responded 1053 Winburn Drive to a report of shots fired at an apartment just after 12 a.m. When they got to the apartment, police found a man suffering from gunshot wounds. Police say that man tried to break into an apartment through the patio door and one of the two women inside shot him. One bullet hit him in the leg and the other is believed to have struck his abdomen, according to police. The man was rushed to the University of Kentucky hospital where he underwent surgery. Police say the man was known to the people inside the apartment but they did not know the exact relationship. They also say they do not know why he was trying to get into the apartment. Police say there were two children inside the apartment at the time of the shooting. No one else was injured.
