Emergency management worker accused of forging signatures

BEREA, Ky. (AP) — A Madison County Emergency Management worker has been accused of stealing nearly $34,000 worth of property and services.

Authorities told multiple news sources 54-year-old Tamara Phelps forged her boss’ signature on dozens of orders and reimbursements. Officials say the emergency management agency contacted state police and asked for an investigation into missing property, including electronic devices, auto parts and residential items.

Police say the investigation showed between June 2014 and April, Phelps forged a signature on sixty purchase orders and numerous reimbursement sheets through the Madison County Fiscal Court.

Phelps has been sent to the Madison County Detention Center on 60 counts of first-degree forgery and one count of theft by unlawfully taking over $10,000.

It is unclear if she has a lawyer.
